For decades, MAAF has been an important catalyst for arts in the mid-Atlantic region and beyond. By supporting and encouraging the exchange of performing artists through ArtsCONNECT, Artists & Communities and other touring programs, and by providing administrative services for PennPAT and artists fellowship awards, the Foundation has played a vital role in the arts life of this region. MAAF programs have invariably benefited individual artists, both through fee support and by making vital connections among the institutions who present their art. The Foundation’s Living Legacy Jazz Award has honored more than 20 outstanding jazz musicians, bringing overdue recognition to artists who all too frequently labor not merely in penury, but in a frustrating commercial system that rewards celebrity instead of talent. By providing recognition to these highly deserving individuals, MAAF honors the thousands of artists whose work is under-appreciated and even ignored by contemporary society. The mid-Atlantic region is a better place, for artists and for all of us, because of the work of MAAF.
Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation works with a variety of national, regional and state partners including the National Endowment for the Arts, our State Arts Agency partners, and the five other U.S. Regional Arts Organizations. Our work with our partners provides the backbone of our programming and informs our mission.
