Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation Launches New Registry of Fellowship Artists

Baltimore, MD - November 23, 2009 - Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation (MAAF) is pleased to announce the launch of a new, on-line registry of artist fellowship winners from Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, U.S. Virgin Islands, Virginia, and West Virginia. The service, which is free to both artists and public users, features artist profiles, work samples across all disciplines, online exhibitions, and a technical assistance section. The Mid Atlantic Artist Registry is fully searchable allowing the public user to find vetted artists quickly and easily by state, discipline, or name. 
 
Users have the opportunity to view video by dance, media, music and theatre artists; listen to audio from spoken word, media and music artists; read poetry, prose, plays, and other writings; and view a multitude of visual work samples from some of the finest artists in the mid-Atlantic region. Contact information for each artist allows users a quick click-through email for information on commissions, purchases, publishing, residency availability, and other contract/exhibition work.

The Mid Atlantic Artist Registry is a direct result of MAAF's strategic plan for 2006-2011.  For almost ten years, MAAF has provided administrative services for the fellowship review and selection process for the states of Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.  During the planning process, the Mid Atlantic Artist Registry surfaced as a way MAAF could increase its support for individual artists and add value to the state fellowship programs of its collaborating states.  The fellowship winners were quick to endorse the idea.
 
The Registry is accessible through MAAF's primary site (www.midatlanticarts.org) and includes two primary sections: a searchable database of fellowship winners, and an exhibition/technical support section. 

The searchable database features artist profiles including: contact information, web presence, discipline(s), biography, news, fellowship and other awards received, selected work, and selected projects.  The profiles also include visual/audio representations of artist work including images, video, audio, and PDF's of text for literary artists.

The exhibition/technical assistance section includes dynamic exhibitions hosted by guest curators who will work with artists' featured in the registry to create several exhibitions per year.  The exhibitions will feature all genres and not be limited to visual art forms.  John Massier, Visual Arts Curator at Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center in Buffalo, NY, is the inaugural guest curator.  The technical support section features links to information on subjects such as live/work space for artists, legal issues, and funding opportunities. 
 
The Mid Atlantic Artist Registry is made possible with support from the Delaware Division of the Arts, DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, Maryland State Arts Council, New Jersey State Council on the Arts, Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, Virgin Islands Council on the Arts, Virginia Commission for the Arts, and the West Virginia Division of Culture and History.
