Calling Mid-Atlantic Presenters: MAAF Seeks Your Input on 2009-10 Tour Rosters |
 |
The Foundation will soon be launching a survey and
special webpage for mid-Atlantic presenters to learn
about the many performing artists currently under
consideration for inclusion on the 2009-2010 Mid
Atlantic Tours and American Masterpieces artist
rosters. The survey will give presenters the
opportunity to indicate their level of interest in
proposed artists as well as offer alternative
suggestions. The survey and webpage will go live in
early June so watch your email for the launch. The
Foundation will make its final roster selections in mid-
summer based on the programs' respective goals
and criteria, and the interest indicated by presenters
who respond by the survey deadline.

Jazz Touring Network April Session Round-Up |
 |
The second Jazz Touring Network ("JTN") convening
of FY08 took place April 7-8, 2008 at the Foundation's
offices in Baltimore, Maryland. Network members
reported on 2007-2008 JTN-supported engagements
of the guitarists Bill Frissell and Russell Malone,
pianist and percussionist Omar Sosa, and trumpeter
Chris Botti; and finalized the selection of jazz vocalists
Esperanza Spalding; Cathleen Russell; and Simone
for tours next season. Ben Johnson, Director of
Education and Audience Development at the
University Musical Society in Ann Arbor, Michigan,
presented strategies for building jazz audiences,
especially targeting the members' upcoming jazz
programs. Meeting participants attended a
performance by the celebrated saxophonist Carl
Grubbs at An die Musik, a leading jazz presenting
organization in Baltimore, which included a pre-curtain
interview with the artist and post-performance
reception.
