Hurry to Host Independent Films and Filmakers!
The Foundation's On Screen/In Person film touring program is currently accepting applications from nonprofit organizations and units of state or local government interested in bringing new independent American films and guest filmmakers to their communities in 2012-2013. Host sites must be based in Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, U.S.Virgin Islands, Virginia or West Virginia. The application deadline for organizations interested as serving as host sites is Friday, December 2, 2011. Guidelines and application are available here. Filmmakers from anywhere in the United States interested in being considered for the program should visit www.withoutabox.com. The deadline for film submissions is February 3, 2012. The second of three application deadlines for the Foundation's USArtists International program is Friday, December 9, 2011 for engagements taking place between March 1, 2012 and February 28, 2013. This national initiative provides support to American dance, music and theater ensembles and solo performers that have been invited to perform at significant international festivals and engagements that represent extraordinary career opportunities anywhere in the world outside of the United States and its territories. American Masterpieces and Mid Atlantic Tours Funding Available

Fee support is available while funds last to presenters in Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, U.S. Virgin Islands, Virginia, and West Virginia booking artists on the Foundation's 2012-2013 American Masterpieces and Mid Atlantic Tours rosters. Presenters are encouraged to pursue this opportunity and secure artist engagements as soon as possible. The deadline for confirming any engagement proposed for support for either program is Friday, March 1, 2012, providing funds are still available. Folk Arts Project Focus on Embroidery Traditions

Photo courtesy of the artist. | The Foundation's next Folk Arts Outreach Project will occur November 28-30, 2011 in Ithaca, New York pairing master textile artists Vera Nakonechny of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with Ithaca-based Eniko Farkas. The two artists will compare their distinct embroidery styles as well as their experiences as immigrants from Ukraine and Hungary, respectively. Together with host folklorists Ellen McHale and Lisa Overholster of the New York Folklore Society and visiting independent folklorist Amy Skillman, the group will discuss teaching, exhibition and preservation methodologies. A meeting with staff of the Mohawk Valley Resource Center for Refugees will focus on working with artists in local immigrant communities.The project will feature a gathering of needle artists open to the public at Ithaca's History Center on Tuesday, November 29. Fourth Annual Maryland Presenters Networking Meeting
There's still time for performing arts presenters in Maryland to register and attend the Maryland State Arts Council's (MSAC) annual presenter networking meeting on Wednesday, November 30, 2011, at the BlackRock Center for the Arts in Germantown. The meeting features sessions designed to keep presenters abreast of the latest developments in their field, including a forum with the Association of Performing Arts Presenters' new President & CEO Mario Garcia Durham; a presentation by the consulting firm Trudel | MacPherson on the effective use of digital communications and social media; and updates on funding opportunities available through Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation.
