International Grants Announced

The Foundation's USArtists International program awarded $189,600 in the second of three grant rounds to be conducted in the current fiscal year. The program, dedicated to ensuring that the impressive range of expression in the performing arts in the United States is represented abroad, works to strengthen the creative and professional development of American dance, music and theater artists by providing grants to support their performances at significant international festivals and engagements representing extraordinary career opportunities.
Second round grants will support 29 ensembles and solo artists at 37 different festivals in 21 countries across six continents. The grantees span a wide variety of performing genres and styles, and range from the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra to the Taylor Ho Bynum Sextet from New Haven, Connecticut and Cleo Parker Robinson Dance in Denver, Colorado to Elevator Repair Service in New York. New Jersey Fellowships Awarded Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation was pleased to administer the 2011 Individual Artists Fellowship program on behalf of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. Grants totaling $159,000 were awarded to 22 New Jersey artists working in the areas of choreography, music composition, and painting. Over 200 applications were reviewed by panels of accomplished artists and arts professionals that met at the Foundation's Baltimore office in October 2010. Registration Now Available for Folklife Conference
The 2011 Middle Atlantic Folklife Association ("MAFA") conference, entitled "Heritage and the State," will take place April 7-9, 2011 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Open to professional folklorists, community scholars and students, the conference will feature individual paper, film, and panel presentations from scholars throughout the mid-Atlantic region. The conference is a joint meeting of MAFA, the Middle Atlantic American Studies Association, and the Pennsylvania Political Science Association. Glass Painting Featured in Folk Arts Outreach Project

The Foundation's next Folk Arts Outreach Project will explore the art of painting on glass represented through two distinct cultural traditions. "Old Traditions Reconsidered: Painting on Glass in Two Communities of the Middle Atlantic Region," brings together New York-based Haitian-American artist Kesler Pierre and South Jersey painter Kenneth Leap. The project will take place at Wheaton Arts and Cultural Center in Millville, New Jersey on April 14-16, 2011 with events open to the public scheduled on Saturday, April 16. Pennsylvania Performing Artists: Pennsylvania Performing Arts on Tour (PennPAT) is accepting applications for its 2012 Artist Roster. PennPAT increases opportunities for a roster of Pennsylvania's finest performing artists in dance, music, and theater to obtain successful touring engagements. Roster applications are reviewed annually by a panel of experts on the basis of two criteria - artistic merit and touring readiness. The roster is updated annually and is subject to change.
The application deadline is June 1, 2011. The guidelines and application are now available on our website in a writeable Word format.

Performing Arts Exchange 2011 Showcase Applications Now Available
Interested in showcasing at one of the country's key regional booking conferences? If so, apply now for this year's Performing Arts Exchange Juried Showcase. The Juried Showcase application for the 2011 Performing Arts Exchange is now available. Application deadline is March 31, 2011. Eighteen solo performers or ensembles will be selected to perform for 15 minutes in front of an audience of presenters. This is a unique experience that can help you build a reputation and create interest for the next touring season. Performing Arts Exchange 2011 takes place in Baton Rouge, Louisiana from September 21- 24, 2011. Juried Showcases take place on Thursday and Friday evenings during the conference.
