From Bridge to Boardwalk: An Audio Journey
Across Maryland's Eastern Shore features
2 CD's with over two hours of interviews with
Shore personalities, historical recordings,
music, and ambient sound. The accompanying
76-page book includes a pull-out map, essays,
photographs, and tips to finding local arts
and cultural treasures.
The audio portion of the product features twelve interviews highlighting the
culture of the Shore including: the building of the Bay Bridge; watermen; skipjacks;
the poultry industry; muskrat skinning; crab picking; Scorchy Tawes; master
decoy carvers, the Ward Brothers; Smith Island; gospel music; hunting and duck
calling; and the Ocean City Beach Patrol.
The spiral bound book includes a map and essays by community scholars and folklorists
highlighting the soul of the Shore by exploring the food, communities, agricultural
ties, and tourism that shaped the region into what it is today. Photographs
- both historic and recent - illustrate the changes taking place in the region.
A resource section rounds out From Bridge to Boardwalk with tips on
festivals and events, links to park information, cultural contacts, and places
to visit.
From Bridge to Boardwalk is sure to please
everyone who has ever had the pleasure of crossing
the Bridge - and those who are new to Maryland's shores.
