Carl Hancock Rux, New York, NY & Daniel Bernard Roumain, New York, NY

Composer and musician Daniel Bernard Roumain and writer Carl Hancock Rux brought members of the Harlem community into the creative process through a number of residency activities over a six-month period designed to provide feedback to the artists during the development of their new work, entitled Makandal, commissioned by Aaron Davis Hall.

Marcus Gardley, New York, NY

Playwright Marcus Gardley developed his new theater work exploring the phenomena of church burnings during the height of the civil rights movement, Feels Like a Fire…Shut up in My Bones, through interviews conducted by Howard University students with historians, government and civil rights workers, and church leaders in Washington, DC, culminating in a final reading presented for the local community.

Bonnie Gale, Norwich, NY

Visual and craft artist Bonnie Gale worked with members of the national youth environmental group Earthforce and patients at the Stairways Behavioral Health Center to design and build a living willow installation on the site of the Lake Erie Arboretum at Frontier Park in Erie.

Asian Arts Initiative, Philadelphia, PA                     
Regie Cabico, New York, NY

Artist, educator, poet and activist Regie Cabico designed and facilitated a ten-week residency working with the organization’s intergenerational theater program GenerAsian Next culminating in a new group public performance focusing on issues of racial identity and stereotyping.

Myung Jin Choi, Philadelphia, PA

Clay and mixed-media artist Myung Jin Choi worked with patients of the Sheppard Pratt mental health center to create objects which were incorporated into a permanent public art installation at the facility.

Calliope House, Pittsburgh, PA                
Cristian Amigo, Astoria, NY

Chilean-American composer and ethnomusicologist Cristian Amigo conducted in-depth interviews and interactive workshops with members of the local Latin American community in Pittsburgh for the creation of an original album that draws from regional folk styles.

CEPA Gallery, Buffalo, NY            
Mariam Ghani, Brooklyn, NY

Video and new media artist Mariam Ghani invited residents of Buffalo’s large Arab, Latino, and Native American populations to reflect on the current scrutiny of what it means to be an American through object, image, or story with their responses being compiled and documented through video, photography, postcards and the Web, culminating in an exhibition at the gallery.

Pedro Ospina, Briarcliff, NY & Rana Sindhikara, Philadelphia, PA
COSACOSA'S Telling Time, Telling Place project brought interdisciplinary artist Pedro Ospina and new media artist Rana Sindhikara to collaborate with residents of two North Philadelphia communities to create both physical and virtual timelines of shared history, hopes, and honored leaders through story-telling, visual art-making and digital design designed to bring together sometimes fractious communities.

David Chung, Washington, DC

Korean-American visual artist David Chung will work with The Fabric Workshop and Museum in a collaboration with the Philadelphia Folklore Project to explore with the local Asian community how traditional animist and shaman beliefs are manifested in contemporary Western settings in order to create an installation of a large scale prints on fabric.

Matt Bua, Brooklyn, NY

Multi-disciplinary artists Jesse Bercowetz and Matt Bua's residency with free103point9 will result in the site-specific installation "Sing Sun - Room,"  incorporating sound elements powered by solar energy, which will be created in collaboration with teens from the local community.

Institute for Arts and Humanities Education, New Brunswick, NJ                       
Darrell Wilson, Staten Island, NY & Daniel Hefferman, Brooklyn, NY

Multi-disciplinary artists Darrell Wilson and Daniel Hefferman will brings together artists, a community of young people and an arts organization to explore and create tableaux vivants utilizing video and live performance.

Jersey City Museum, Jersey City, NJ                        
Barbara Meg Bickart, Jersey City, NJ

Media artist Barbara Bickart will invite Segunda Quimbamba, a Puerto Rican percussion and dance ensemble, and members of the Bethesda Baptist Church to participate in the making of a film and live performances that address the effects of gentrification on their historic downtown Jersey City neighborhood.

McCarter Theater, Princeton, NJ                
Will Power, Beacon, NY

Playwright, composer and arts activist Will Power will be in residency at McCarter Theatre, in Princeton, NJ, to develop his latest play, Fetch Clay, Make Man, informed by interaction with Princeton community and campus groups, including members of the Witherspoon Street Presbyterian Church and the Carl A. Fields Center for Equality and Cultural Understanding.

Pittsburgh Dance Alloy, Pittsburgh, PA                  
David Parker, New York, NY

An intergenerational creative/performance residency between choreographer David Parker, Pittsburgh Dance Alloy Theater and 15 inner city elementary school drummers from the Dilworth Traditional Academy, culminating in a fully produced performance as part of the regular Dance Alloy home season.

Provisions Learning Project, Washington, DC                        
Bradley McCallum, Brooklyn, NY & Jacqueline Tarry, Brooklyn, NY

Mixed media artists Bradley McCallum and Jacqueline Tarry working through the Street Scenes: Projects for DC initiative will create with local youth from the Patricia M. Sitar Center for the Arts storefront multimedia installations and an interactive walking tour exploring issues of race.

Touchstone Theatre, Bethlehem, PA                        
Ysaye Barnwell, Washington, DC

Vocalist and actor Ysaye Barnwell will work with Muhlenberg College students, the Lehigh Valley Historical Society, and Lehigh County Senior Center to collect stories from residents of Allentown, Bethlehem, and Easton, Pennsylvania exploring the African American experience over the past century in the Lehigh Valley, culminating in a music theatre production.

University of the Virgin Islands, St. Thomas, USVI                
Anula Shetty, Philadelphia, PA & Michael Kuetmeyer, Philadelphia, PA

Media artists Anula Shetty and Michael Kuetmeyer will provide local students with intensive training in digital and film technologies through the university’s Youth Moviemaking Workshop program in order to create short films for a public screening at the Reichhold Center for the Arts.
