The BNY Mellon Jazz 2014 Living Legacy Award
sponsored by BNY Mellon

Celebrating 20 Years of Legacy Honorees

And Honoring Joanne Brackeen

On Friday, October 10, 2014, Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation celebrated the contributions of pianist and composer Joanne Brackeen at the BNY Mellon Jazz 2014 Living Legacy Award at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

Event guests enjoy a pre-show gala reception in the Kennedy Center Atrium where the 2014 Living Legacy Award was presented.  In honor of the 20th Anniversary of the Living Legacy Jazz Award, previous Legacy winners joined us as our guests for the evening. Kenny Barron, Jimmy Heath, Rufus Reid, Larry Ridley, Randy Weston, and Reggie Workman were all in attendance.

After the reception, guests were treated to BNY Mellon Jazz 2012 Living Legacy awardee Muhal Richard Abrams and his group in a rare, Washington, D.C. performance in the Terrace Theater. This NEA Jazz Master and forward-thinking musician has had a grand impact in the development of original approaches to extended forms of composition and improvisation, and is a co-founder of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM).
