Artists & Communities
Artists from the District of Columbia, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania
are eligible for support through the Artists & Communities
program.
Artists & Communities offers support
to partnerships between visiting artists and non-profit
organizations engaged in community-based creative projects.
The program supports residencies by visiting artists
from the District of Columbia, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania at non-profit
organizations located in the region served by Mid Atlantic
Arts Foundation. This region comprises Delaware, the
District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York,
Pennsylvania, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Virginia, and
West Virginia. Any non-profit organization in the region
may apply.
Creative artists from the District of Columbia, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania
(choreographers, composers, poets, writers, filmmakers,
media and visual artists of all kinds) are supported
in collaborative partnerships outside their home community
with arts and/or community organizations. These projects
serve to motivate and encourage people to examine issues
of importance to them, thereby increasing appreciation
of the role of the arts in community life. The projects
must involve active cultural participation by members
of the host community.
Community-based arts residency projects between one
month and six months in length are eligible for support.
Grants will usually range between $5,000 and $20,000.
Organizations are strongly encouraged to contact Heidi Warren at 215.339.0606 or heidi@midatlanticarts.org to discuss their project
proposals before applying.
Organizations seeking suitable artists for projects
may search MAAF’s online
database for District of Columbia, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania
artists with community arts experience. The list is
non-exclusive and non-juried. Organizations are responsible
for contacting any of the artists for work samples and
project proposals.
District of Columbia, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania artists wishing
to be listed as community artists in MAAF’s Online
Database should download and complete a Community
Artist Submission Form. The form is also included
in the Artists & Communities guidelines booklet.
District of Columbia, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania artists seeking
non-profit project partners may wish to search for a
