Annual Fund
I am excited to begin my tenure as the new Chair of Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation’s board of directors and to launch our 2010 Annual Fund campaign. As a friend of the arts, you are already aware of the fulfilling work that we do, but you may not be aware of some of our specific plans for the next year.
We are eagerly anticipating the projects that will result from Jazz.NEXT, a recently launched national program encouraging the innovative use of technology to strengthen the jazz field. In the coming months, we will be debuting an online Artist Registry of the fellowship winners of our partner states and territories. We are working closely with our state partners to publicize this new multi-media supported service, which features a curated exhibit venue for participating artists representing all artistic disciplines. The Folk and Traditional Arts program will also explore new technology as the Mid Atlantic Forum, a series of essays from mid-Atlantic folk practitioners, is transformed into a participatory weblog.
Our performing arts presenting programs are as active as ever and will support 192 engagements in 91 cities throughout the region during the 2009-2010 season. USArtists International, our program to support American artists performing abroad, will continue with the first of three application deadlines in September. Early in the summer, the Foundation received funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 through the National Endowment for the Arts. We have granted those stimulus dollars to performing arts presenters throughout the region and are helping to save 19 jobs that were in danger of being lost.
At this time more than ever, the arts need your support. We are committed to doing everything we can to insure that the arts are a vibrant part of life in the mid-Atlantic region. I hope that you will join us by making a contribution through the Annual Fund. We appreciate your support, and it will also be appreciated by the artists and audiences that we touch throughout the region.
Thank you,
Dorothy Pierce McSweeny
Chair, Board of Directors
