Annual Fund
As we take the time to appreciate the cooler temperatures and bright colors of fall, we can also welcome a more vibrant arts scene as Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation (MAAF) moves into the 2010-2011 season.
In the coming year, we will be providing support for tours of more than 30 performing arts groups throughout the region, including: Aquila Theatre Company, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Parsons Dance Company, Step Afrika!, Walnut Street Theatre, Alvin Ailey Dance Company, Esperanza Spalding, Chick Corea, and Spyro Gyra. When the season is over, we will have supported over 160 performances in more than 80 locations. Presenters tell us that without our support they would not be able to bring such high-quality artists to their communities.
Despite the continued difficult economic impact on the arts, we expect to continue to expand our international work in 2010-2011. Through USArtists International, we will help send 82 music, theater, and dance ensembles to festivals around the world on six continents. USArtists International allows us to insure that the diversity, vitality, and excellence of U.S. performing arts are represented abroad. We hope to announce a new program during the year that will provide support to bring artists from abroad to U.S. communities.
In the coming months, we will be working on establishing a program that will tour independent filmmakers and their films throughout the region. The program will provide audiences with access to some of the best independent films being produced today and will give the filmmakers a chance to interact with the films’ viewers.
In 2010, your support allowed MAAF to award 587 grants totaling more than $2.5 million. Perhaps you were one of the nearly six million individuals who benefited as a participant or audience member when 13,539 artists worked in communities in every one of our partner states and beyond. Artists spent 521 days in residency, completing 1,240 related activities. Without your encouragement, such reach would not have been possible.
As a supporter, we know you appreciate how much your assistance means now, and we hope that you will consider making a donation to MAAF to continue to bring these enriching experiences to you and to others in the future. More than simply providing funds, you’ll be participating in the collaborative spirit that we so highly value. Help us make 2011 another great year for the arts in the Mid Atlantic states.
Thank you,
